Day 1 and Update!

So, its been a long time since I’ve been active on this site (or in real life for that matter.) I was doing great and only a few pounds away from my mini-goal! Then I started slacking, just like every other time I’ve tried to lose weight. I though for sure I’d reach my goals once and for all, but then watched myself slip further and further away. I got down to 203 (from 220) and started gaining it back. Then at 218, I found out that I was pregnant with my second child. Of course I was super excited and tried very hard to maintain my weight. My pregnancy, labor, and delivery couldn’t have been more perfect. I gained 20 lbs (it was 40 with my first child.) My labor was only 2 1/2 hours long and I did a natural water birth. Maya was born on Sept. 20, 2007 at 9 lbs 3oz. Her sister Dahlia, was the happiest girl in the world! After she was born I lost all my baby weight and then some very quickly, within 2 weeks I was at 213. (She really was just about half of it though.) Now I’m at 230! I’m exclusively breastfeeding (and plan to continue for another 8 months) which makes my weightloss efforts a little more difficult. I need to make sure I have some extra calories for her and have limited time to sneak out to the gym.

During the week I run a Family Daycare from 7am to 5pm. I have my two kids, plus four others all day long. My days are super busy, especially since I have to nurse the baby every 2-3 hours, for usually 30 minutes at a time. After the daycare kids go home, I clean up, make dinner/eat dinner, give the kids a bath, do some chores, put the kids to bed, and by that time I’m ready for bed myself! BUT I’m trying my hardest to go to the gym at least twice during the week and once on the weekend. I also need to do more Yoga! I used to do it all the time and my body felt great! I have a YMCA membership and I really do love going to the gym, it just seems so hard to find the time. I would like to find the time for meditation as well.

My diet is completely Vegan and has been for over 4 years. I have never met another overweight Vegan! The foods that I eat are so healthy, I just need to decrease my portion sizes. I also tend to binge every once in a while on soy ice cream and sweet stuff. My dad’s side of the family all have weight issues and I’m convinced its working against me. My mom had thyroid cancer a little over a year ago and I have mine checked every time I have a physical. So far so good.

I’m just so tired of being overweight. I need to lose it for myself and for my daughters. I want them to grow up healthy and confident, and I really need to set an example.

I’ve decided to do a weigh-in every Monday and track my food and exercise every night in my blog.

Wish me luck!

I didn’t really get off to a good start with food today. I also need to drink more water!
